Gemini Student Hub: How to Open It and Use the Learning Tools

How to open the Gemini student hub, who can use it (including the EEA limit), and how to use notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes.

GeminiEducationTutorialWorkspace2026

Google’s October 1, 2026 Workspace update adds a student hub in the Gemini app so learning tools sit in one place. Students can start a study notebook, create flashcards, take a practice quiz, and use further learning tools as Google adds them. This tutorial covers who can open it, how to open it, and a plain way to use the three tools Google names.

This is an independent site, not an official Google page. Steps stay generic because the announcement does not name buttons beyond Students.

What the hub is

The post is “Find your learning tools all in one place with the student hub in Gemini” (October 1, 2026) on the Workspace updates feed.

The hub is an entry in the Gemini app. It is not a new account type and not a separate app. It was on personal accounts first and is now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages.

Google names three tools, plus room for more:

  • A study notebook
  • Flashcards
  • A practice quiz
  • And more, as later learning tools appear in the hub

This post does not name the extra tools. If the hub shows something this page does not list, that matches the “and more” line.

Google also published “Start the semester with one year of Gemini, on us.” Offer terms are not repeated here.

Who can use it

AccountWhat Google says
Personal Google accountAvailable globally
Google Workspace customersAvailable outside the European Economic Area (EEA)
Workspace Individual subscribersAvailable outside the EEA
Google Workspace for EducationNow available, for users of all ages

Both sentences in the update matter. Education users of all ages are newly included. Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers are listed outside the EEA. Personal accounts are global, so a personal account in the EEA is on the list. Google has not published a further line that puts EEA Workspace for Education domains in or out. If a school domain inside the EEA cannot see the hub, that is an availability question for the admin, not a switch on the student account.

There is no end-user setting. Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains are available now.

How to open the hub

  1. Sign in with the account that should have access.
  2. Open gemini.google.com/students, or open the Gemini app and select Students in the menu.
  3. If Students is missing and the direct link does not open the hub, stop. A Workspace user should ask an admin whether the Gemini app is on. An EEA Workspace user should check the availability table.

That is the open path Google published.

Use the three named tools

The announcement says students can start a notebook, create flashcards, and take a practice quiz. It does not publish a click-path, a button name, or a card limit. The steps below stay inside those verbs.

Study notebook

  1. Open the hub.
  2. Start a study notebook.
  3. Give it the topic, or the notes, for the work you have now. One chapter is a better start than a whole course in one notebook.
  4. Read the result against your source. The notebook is a place to start. The assigned text is still the text.

Tip from us, not a hub feature: keep one scope per notebook. Google has not said the product enforces that. Six topics are easier to check as six notebooks.

Flashcards

  1. In the hub, choose the flashcards tool.
  2. Give it the same notes or topic you used for the notebook.
  3. Read both sides before you treat a card as known.

Tips from us: use short sessions. If a card disagrees with the source, fix it or drop it yourself. The announcement does not describe spaced repetition, starred cards, or an export format. If you need those, keep the tool you already use, and treat these cards as a first draft.

Practice quiz

  1. After the notes and the cards, choose the practice quiz.
  2. Use the same topic.
  3. Check misses in the source material, not only in the quiz result.

Tip from us: quiz after the cards. The announcement does not say the hub orders the tools this way. The order is a study sequence.

A session you can repeat

This order is our suggestion, not a mode Google ships.

  1. Pick one topic that is on the next quiz or problem set.
  2. Start a study notebook for that topic only.
  3. Create flashcards from those notes.
  4. Take a practice quiz on that topic.
  5. Write down the misses and look them up in the course material before you open a second topic.

The announcement does not describe a session timer or a daily goal. Stop while the miss list is still short enough to review.

If you also want a short video

The student hub is not a video tool, and nothing here is wired into Google’s hub. If you want a short explainer clip, use this site’s Gemini Omni video tool at /video-studio/. What that model is, separate from the hub, is in What is Gemini Omni?.

Notes for school admins

  • The hub follows the existing Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin console: Gemini app on or off. Google does not describe a second toggle for the hub.
  • Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains are both available now.
  • Read the EEA line before you tell every campus the hub is on. Personal accounts are global. Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers are outside the EEA. Education users of all ages are now included. Those are the sentences in the post.

Gems in education are a different calendar. Google recommends Gemini Notebook (available) and Guided Learning (coming soon to Classroom) for educators moving off Gems. Education Gems cannot be created, edited, or used no sooner than June 1, 2027. That cutoff also removes them from Google Classroom and from third-party LMS tools via Gemini LTI. The skills replacement is in Skills replace Gems. Workspace skills are delayed and, when they ship, are 18+ on the editions in that guide. The student hub is the learning-tools page, including for Education users of all ages. It is not the skills rollout.

FAQ

What is the Gemini student hub?

It is a dedicated place in the Gemini app for Gemini's learning tools. Google's October 1, 2026 Workspace update says students can start a study notebook, create flashcards, take a practice quiz, and more. As Google adds learning tools, they show up in the hub. It began on personal accounts and is now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages.

How do I open the student hub?

Visit gemini.google.com/students, or select Students in the Gemini app menu. Google says there is no end-user setting to turn the hub on.

Can I use the student hub in the EEA?

Personal Google accounts can use it globally, which includes the EEA. Google's availability line for Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers is outside the European Economic Area. Google also says Workspace for Education users of all ages have the hub. It has not published a separate sentence that clears EEA education domains.

Do school admins need a new setting?

No new hub switch. Access follows the existing Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin console, the control that turns the Gemini app on or off. Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains have the hub now, for accounts that meet the availability rules.
